It gives me great pleasure to write this letter of recommendation on behalf of Dr. Rodney Marcelo do Nascimento. I met Dr. do Nascimento when we were both presenting in the Regenerative Medicine and StemCell (RMSC) international conference, 2017, in Singapore. As we were sharing similar sessions, and following similar areas of interest, we naturally started talking about common scientific perspectives. Dr. do Nascimento has a strong background in experimental-theoretical approaches, and he expertizes in the bio-physics of soft matter and its interfaces and interactions with living biological systems. I remember that I was immediately impressed by Dr. do Nascimento enthusiasm and by his in-depth biological scientific understanding— which is a major advantage for theoretical physicists working in these fields. Dr. do Nascimento and I kept an active communication channel following that conference which resulted in the establishment of a prolific, international and multidisciplinary scientific effort. Our mutual work focused on the biophysical processes of cell attachment, survival and interaction with optimized biomedical implant surfaces, which correlated to interfacial energies and empirical cell morphologies. As an assistant professor in Biotechnology Engineering having over 12 years of experience in stem cells and tissue engineering research, I can testify that Dr. do Nasicmento is an interdisciplinary team player, an independent thinker and a highly motivated researcher. Furthermore, Dr. do Nascimento is a very bright and qualified individual, and it is an absolute pleasure to work with him.
